I had the unique childhood of growing up in Germany and an island in the pacific. My weekends and school vacations were spent visiting 13 countries; diving into each countries unique customs and traditions and languages. Since then, I have increased my total to 20 countries and 34 states (traveling with small children, multi generational trips, girls retreats, and couples getaways). I was born with the wanderlust gene and my husband and girls (now 7 & 10) are just as adventurous.
My first trip to a Disney property was to Disneyland in 1981 at the age of 4 months. Although, I don't remember it, my parents love to regale all guests with a story that involves an infant, a diaper, and the amazing hospitality of Disneyland’s Baby Care Center. Twenty years later I was able to finally make my own memories at Disney World, this time with my fiancé. He hadn’t been since he was 5 years old and I had never been. That trip sealed our love for Disney and we vowed to go back as often as we could, especially when we had children. Eight years later, my husband, our 4 year and 6 month old daughters, and me were lucky enough to move to Orlando. We were annual pass holders, making it easy to pick up my toddler from day school at 1, drive 45 min to the front gates, and spend a few hours riding rides, making memories, and home by bed time. It also allowed us the accessibility to have the BEST staycations! We visited the parks close to 20 times in small and large multigenerational groups. We now live in Austin, TX and are determined to visit Disney properties as often as we can.
With close proximity to Port Canaveral, we have ventured on 5 cruises, mainly with Disney, but also with Royal Caribbean. Disney cruises are unparalleled in their cuisine, entertainment, and ship excursions. We took our first cruise when our girls were only 3 and 7! From the amazing Broadway style shows, on board activities, the youth clubs my kids never wanted to leave, and 5 star quality dining, it’s hard to pick my favorite part of a Disney cruise. Every cruise vacation gets better and better. Once you cruise on a Disney ship, you are spoiled for life!
I have traveled my whole life and now as a mother, I know how to plan and execute that perfect family vacation we all dream about. It takes a bit more organization, but I truly believe traveling expands our minds, inspires global awareness, and most importantly, it binds us together as a family. Hilaire Belloc, prolific writer and historian during the twentieth century said it best “We wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfillment”.
