A Disney Vacation is a truly
magical experience. As Walt Disney once said, “Here you leave today – and
visit the worlds of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.” This magic and fantasy
is even more real when visiting Disney with young children. The delight in their
eyes and squeals from sun up to sun down is really special. Traveling with young
children can sound like a handful and maybe even extra hassle, but I am going to
give you some tips I learned from vacationing recently with my little ones (my
3-year old son and 1-year old daughter) in Walt Disney World.
Long-Day of Travel? Avoid
making it longer
My husband and I were so
excited to wake the kids up, albeit at 4:30 am, for our half-day trek to Disney
World. Not once did I think, I bet these kids are tired from flying and
traveling, so we should just take it easy and relax that first day. No way - the
minute we arrived at our hotel, we hopped on that monorail and headed to Magic
Kingdom. My son saw Cinderella’s Castle in the distance and I will never
forget him screaming with joy, “Hey, there’s Disney World!” It was amazing
to see the enchantment in my children’s eyes when we arrived at the Magic
Kingdom. I got goose bumps seeing their smiles light up... Then, as quickly as
the excitement hit us, the no naps,
completely exhausted, been going for 12 -hours straight tantrums started. By
the time we grabbed a quick dinner for the stroller ride back to our resort and
room, all while trying to keep the overly-tired children in their stroller, my
husband and I realized doing too much after traveling all day was probably not
the best idea. I will never forget how easy and smooth the next day was at
Disney World, with the kids rested and ready to go! It made such a huge
Disney World Resorts have amazing pools and cool areas to relax. After a
long-day of travel with toddlers, take your time checking-in, scoping out the
awesome resort and room, and then relax by the pool or in the lobby, and get
ready to conquer Disney World the following day!
Nap Times are Necessary
I get it... Some toddlers do
not nap, but for the ones like mine who take a scheduled nap/break time daily,
it is important to continue this when on vacation, even in Disney World. There
is always something to do at Disney – every single second of every single day
– BUT a break is also highly recommended when traveling with young children.
On our recent Disney World vacation, two days, in particular, stand out
in my mind the most. One day, we visited Hollywood Studios all morning, ate
lunch there, and then headed back to our resort for a nap. My children were out
faster than we could turn off the lights. My husband and I were able to put our
feet up and relax on our balcony. Afterwards, we all headed to Epcot, where we
stayed until closing. Not one toddler tantrum that day... not one! Another day,
we decided to go, go, go with no nap... Let’s just say by 6 pm, everyone in my
family was ready to “go night night” and sleep for 12 hours. I won’t even
tell you how many tears my daughter shed that day, as I have tried to block that
I know you want to go all day at Disney World, but it is important (for
everyone’s happiness) to follow a similar schedule on vacation as you do at
I am so glad I took this
advice during our recent trip. That backpack became my best friend and source of
reliability during our Disney Vacation. Every night, I reloaded it with the
essentials, a change of clothes in bags for each child (which with young
children is a MUST), wipes for the sticky fingers that were evident from all the
suckers we purchased, waters (everyone gets thirsty when going non-stop),
sunscreen, maps, and any reservation numbers we needed for dining or
Toddlers are messy! It is in their DNA. When vacationing in Disney with
toddlers, it is always best to pack essentials that you can easily bring along
for your day. It is also great to carry all your things as well to help make the
day go as smoothly as possible. Backpacks work great!
Enjoy every moment
A Disney vacation with young
children is so spectacular. The magic was so real with my children and to this
day, my son asks me weekly when we are returning. There were times, I would say
to myself - take this all in, remember this moment.
Vacationing with small children will not go exactly as you plan… I am sure
there will be a few mishaps… Don’t sweat the small stuff! Enjoy every
moment. See Disney through your children’s eyes, and without a doubt, feel the
magic of your vacation!
When vacationing in Disney
with your little ones, remember these tips! They will help you and your families
have less of a stressful vacation and everyone will have an amazing time. I will
never forget my young children’s first Disney experience, and I am already
planning our next vacation!
Disney is at it again! Some of my clients were recently chosen to participate in Disney's FastPass+ system - a system where you are allowed to plan out your FastPass attractions.. BEFORE you arrive! No more sending one person off to get all the passes - nope. No more!
This system was all part of yet another attempt to make all Disney guest's experience, that much more enjoyable! Read all about it, straight from the source, right here:
At Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we continually push the boundaries of creativity and innovation to deliver the best possible experience for our Guests. We’re always looking for ways to take what we do and do it even better. Over the past few years, we’ve devoted considerable time and resources to create a more immersive, more seamless and more personal experience for each and every Guest who spends time with us. I know there’s been significant speculation about these efforts among our fans, so we’re pleased to give you a glimpse into the work we are doing to take the entire Disney Guest experience to the next level.
Some of these initiatives are more apparent and can already be seen by our Guests – like our interactive queues at Walt Disney World® Resort and the Enchanted Art on our cruise ships – while others are more behind-the-scenes and are focused on “how” visitors plan, access and enjoy their experiences with us. Over the next several months, we’ll be rolling out a collection of tools at the Walt Disney World Resort called MyMagic+ that will give Guests more opportunities to customize and personalize their entire visit.
Like most people who visit Walt Disney World Resort, my family and I have our “must-do” attractions, and as the father of three boys, those attractions often end with the word “mountain.” Now, rather than dashing as a group, or even splitting up to gather FastPasses, imagine booking guaranteed ride times for your favorite shows and attractions even before setting foot in the park. With MyMagic+, Guests will be able to do that and more, enabling them to spend more time together and creating an experience that’s better for everyone.
A major component of MyMagic+ is the new My Disney Experience website and mobile app, which gives Guests planning their trip the latest information on all Walt Disney World Resort has to offer. We know that some people like to plan every aspect of their Disney vacation in advance while others like to plan very little, letting their day unfold spontaneously. No matter where Guests fall in that spectrum, My Disney Experience gives them the flexibility to plan as much or as little as they’d like to create the exact Disney experience they want. They can book dining and other experiences and reserve times for their favorite attractions, shows and more through an enhanced FastPass system, FastPass+. Once they arrive, they can use their smart phones to spontaneously change their plans in the moment, exploring our parks at their own pace and getting the most out of their visit.
Linking the entire MyMagic+ experience together is an innovative piece of technology we developed called the MagicBand. Worn on the wrist, it will serve as a Guest’s room key, theme park ticket, access to FastPass+ selections, PhotoPass card and optional payment account all rolled into one. We’ve began testing certain aspects of MyMagic+ in Florida last month and the early reactions we’ve gotten have been fantastic.
This collection of tools is another step forward in the ongoing evolution of our Guest experience, giving us even more ways to help friends and family create the unforgettable Disney memories that they want most. We’ll be testing, adjusting and adding features to MyMagic+ and My Disney Experience over time and will continue to make improvements based on our Guests’ feedback. We look forward to sharing more with you in the months ahead!
We hope to be a part of your next Magical Disney Vacation! Allow one of our experienced Magical Memory Makers
make those dreams a reality!
