Disney Cruise Themes 101

You all know how much I love taking my family on a Disney Cruise :)  We have been on 8 cruises so far and can't wait for the next adventure !! Because of my experience , I often get asked, "When is the best time to cruise with my family?"  Make no mistake, every Disney Cruise offers unforgettable fun and magical memories, but some sailings offer even more value by adding special themes and character events.

Special Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises offer an extra layer of holiday-themed events and activities while onboard.   For the action-adventure lover, Disney also offers Star Wars Days at Sea or Marvel Days at Sea, which are full-day celebrations featuring the characters from each beloved franchise to offer even more fun for the entire family.  Look for sailing dates during the school year, especially in early Spring or September and October, which will be good bets for reduced fares.

The Halloween-themed cruises occur on all of Disney’s ships from September through the end of October, and feature trick or treating with all the Disney characters, Mickey’s Mouse-Querade Party, and an eerie Pumpkin Tree that is the centerpiece of the lobby area and transforms every day.   Halloween-themed movies will be shown throughout the cruise in the Buena Vista Theater, and all your favorite Disney characters will be in costume to celebrate!

Love Christmas?   Sailing on The Very Merrytime Cruises (offered from early November through late December), feature loads of holiday themed events and parties.   Lavish holiday decorations, giant candy-canes, and a special tree-lighting ceremony with all the Disney characters decked out in holiday attire add to the magic on board.   Of course, no holiday cruise would be complete without meeting Santa Claus and have Storytime with Mrs. Claus.

Perhaps you want to sail to a galaxy far, far away?   Disney Star Wars Days at Sea are offered for special sailings on the Disney Fantasy ship, and includes a deck party and meet and greets with all of your favorite inter-galactic characters.  Add in Star Wars themed kids’ activities and unique food and beverage offerings, and you will have an unforgettable experience.   Of course, there is a special on-board version of the Jedi Training Experience, which will allow your young Jedi to train how to use a light-saber and eventually face off against Darth Vader!

If comic book heroes are your thing, try out the Marvel Days at Sea, which offer day-long celebrations and meet and greets with Thor, Captain America, and Spider-Man.   Also included are interactions with Marvel’s most menacing villains and special movie showings throughout the cruise.

I loved the smell of the Enormous Gingerbread House during The Merrytime Cruise !

No matter what Disney Cruise you choose, you will get first-class service, entertainment, extraordinary food, unforgettable excursions, and loads of activities to make an amazing vacation for your entire family!  For more details about Disney Cruise Line's Special Days at Sea and Holiday Cruises, see here.
